Osgood Shoot-Out to feature local and national stars

NEW BRITAIN- The 20th Annual Osgood Shoot-Out Scholarship basketball tournament begins on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at New Britain High School and will last until Sunday. Former UConn star and now Charlotte Bobcat Kemba Walker



is back headlining a group of big names including numerous former and present New Britain and Plainville High School stars. Walker will be playing with former UConn teammates Gavin Edwards and Charles Okwandu, while another former Husky and current Phoenix Sun, Jerome Dyson, brings in a strong team from Boston. The scholarship recipients this year are Deandra Willis and Kenna Amos of New Britain High School’s class of 2012.The tournament consists of three divisions. The Open division has a total of 19 teams including Walker’s and Dyson’s teams. Former University of Rhode Island stars Keith Cothran and Montie Ulmer will try and win their third championship in five years.

The Over 40 division features four teams from New Britain, Rhode Island, Waterbury and New Haven. Some big names in this division include former UConn star Earl Kelly and former Philadelphia 76er Tharon Mayes.

12 teams round out the final division of the tournament, the High School division. New Britain High School standouts Craven Johnson and Daequan Clark will be participating in this division.

Also, Sunday afternoon will feature a celebrity challenge game, featuring a few local celebrities. The Hot 93.7 All-Stars will go head-to-head with the New Britain High School coaches, who will be coached by former New Britain coach Alton Brooks.

Admission to all of these games is free and Sunday’s championship games will be televised on CPTV.
