NEW BRITAIN - Police are investigating an early Saturday morning shooting on Clark Street that left a 31-year-old resident of the address with a life threatening injury.
Officers responded to a report of an injured person in a third floor apartment at 109 Clark St. at 12:37 a.m. The victim, who lives at the address, suffered a "very serious" gunshot wound and was taken to an area trauma hospital.
Investigators believe the man was assaulted "by one or more people" and the shooting "was not random," Acting Captain James Wardwell said. Police have been on the scene throughout the night interviewing others who live in the building, he said. Detectives are waiting for search warrants to gather evidence at the residence, he added.
The victim is undergoing surgery Saturday afternoon and is reported to be in stable condition, police said. His name is being withheld pending notification of family.
