Police: Two city men shot BB gun at an unmarked cop car
Two city men are facing numerous charges after they allegedly shot a BB gun at an unmarked police cruiser late Thursday afternoon.
Jamel Pope, 37, and Nasiech Morgan, 18, both of 14 Prospect St., saw officers sitting in an unmarked police cruiser parked near their address around 4:30 p.m. and then headed inside an apartment building, police Sgt. Jeanette Saccente said.
A few minutes later, “the officers heard the noise and heard the cruiser being struck and saw the BB gun out a third-floor window,” Saccente said. “They called for backup and then approached the apartment.”
Pope was taken into custody as he was leaving the building, she said. Morgan was found inside .
After the officers received permission to search the home they found the BB gun in a bedroom, Saccente said.
The unmarked car was struck three times with pellets from the gun. The officers were not injured.
Pope and Morgan were charged with breach of peace, possession of a dangerous weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment, conspiracy to commit first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal mischief, conspiracy to commit third-degree criminal mischief, and possession of a BB gun.
