DANNY BROWN - THE HYBRID
When I heard Danny Brown say “I fire up the blunt and it tastes like gumbo/Hit the trees hard like George in the Jungle” on Elzhi’s The Preface, or “Brown cuttin’ up white like Bo Rics” on Hot Soup, or “Hot like Phoenix/Three words for you/Kiss my penis” on an early mixtape.
It’s something in his delivery. He’s got flavor for everyone — the ignorant, the thoughtful, the club-goer, the home-body, the creep, the freak, the savage, the saved, the nomadic men and women of Hip-Hop. He is as he says; A HYBRID. And one who mixes the right recipe.
For many, Danny holds untapped potential ready to be recognized. For some, he carries the burden of being the future. For himself, he exalts in the task. His lyricism begs an ear and grants a smile. I give you my word you’ll get at least that out of this album, and probably much more than you bargained for. The man is a machine; capable of crushing all the men around him.
