UConn Football Player Jasper Howard Killed in Campus Stabbing!

University of Connecticut football player Jasper Howard died after being stabbed during an on-campus fight Sunday morning.

Howard, 20, a junior and starting cornerback from Miami, who was an expectant father, was fatally stabbed outside the Student Union around 12:30 a.m.

Police say that an officer on patrol near Hillside Road was approached by an individual who had reported a stabbing. The officer then discovered Howard and another UConn student, who had both been stabbed.

Howard was taken to Windham Hospital and then flown by LifeStar to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford where he was pronounced dead.

The second victim was treated and released from Windham Hospital. But that student is not being identified in accordance with University policy, said police.

According to police, the stabbing happened after a fight broke out between two groups of students when a school-sponsored dance at the Student Union was evacuated because of a fire alarm.

UConn Police described the two groups involved in the altercation as a mix of both non-UConn and UConn students.

During the fight, police say that Howard, along with another student were stabbed. Police would not elaborate on Howard's involvement in the altercation.

No arrests have been made in the investigation. But police believe that the person who stabbed Howard is not a UConn student. Police also say that no other UConn students are at risk of being attacked.

The State Police Major Crimes Unit is assisting UConn Police in the investigation.

UConn is still expected to play their game next Saturday against the University of West Virginia.

Howard led the Big East in punt returns last season. He had 11 tackles and a forced fumble in UConn's 38-25 win Saturday over the University of Louisville .
